Scholarships and Aid

CMC wants to celebrate extraordinary students and ensure that all committed students are able to experience the magic and joy of chamber music. In addition to need-based financial aid, we offer the following scholarships through the generosity of our donors.

Need-based Financial Aid

CMC wants to enable all committed students to experience the magic of chamber music. Financial aid is available for families who are unable to pay the full participation fee. Priority will be given to students who apply before September 5, 2024.

To apply, please fill out a financial aid application form. Please be advised, the following documents are required in order to submit an application:

  • W2

  • Signed copy of 1040 tax return (pages 1 & 2)

  • or other documents such as, Social Security, Public Assistance, Section 8, disability etc.

Chang/Chavkin Musicians Scholarship

Through a generous donation from Laura Chang and Arnold L. Chavkin, CMC is proud to offer three $6,000 scholarships to young musicians who demonstrate outstanding artistic merit and show financial need. These awards are available to current and new CMC students through an audition and interview process.

Jessie Montgomery Musicians Scholarship

Through a generous donation from the Chu Family Foundation, CMC is proud to offer two scholarships, each worth $6,000, designated for students from underrepresented communities. These scholarships are named for Jessie Montgomery, composer, violinist and educator, who has had a life long affiliation with members of the CMC community.

Eligibility:

  • Ages 12 and up

  • Minimum four years of instrumental study (exceptions may be made by the audition committee)

  • Qualifying instruments: All Strings, All Woodwinds, and Piano (Brass may contact info@chambermusiccenter.org for consideration)

  • Please view our repertoire and audition requirements (below)

  • Financial need is defined by: a family income for four or more family members that make less than $125,000 per year or can show extenuating circumstances.

  • Must contribute a $100 commitment fee towards tuition*

*Extenuating circumstances may be reviewed by the audition committee

Expectations:

  • Must participate in all CMC activities with outstanding leadership, responsibility, attitude, and attendance.

  • Must perform in SOLOS 3 times a year

Audition Requirements:

  • Two scales and two arpeggios

  • Two contrasting solo pieces of the students’ choice (may include one etude) 

  • An interview with the audition committee

  • Essay of why the student would like a scholarship

  • Letter of recommendation from an adult who is knowledgeable of the student's character

Repertoire guidelines for Chang/Chavkin and Jessie Montgomery Musicians Scholarships:

  • Piano

    Haydn Sonata, Chopin Nocturne or equivalent

  • Violin

    Corelli’s La Folia or equivalent

  • Viola

    Telemann Concerto in G major or Brandenburg #6 or equivalent

  • Cello

    Breval Concerto No. 1 in G major or Popper Mazurka or equivalent

  • Woodwinds

    Solos as chosen by your private teacher
